Jonathan Milne
Jonathan brings extensive experience in military music, performance and musical leadership to Da Capo Concert Band.
Born in Windsor, Jonathan began playing the flute at the age of ten. His first flute teacher, Blues and Royals Principal Flautist Con Andrews, sparked his interest in military music.
In 1989 he enlisted in the Band of the Blues and Royals. He completed the six-month equitation course and took part in major ceremonial events, including The Queen’s Birthday Parade, The Royal Tournament and the VE and VJ Day celebrations. He also served in Cyprus, Germany and the Falkland Islands and toured Canada and the United States.
In 1991 Jonathan attended the one-year Pupil’s Course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, winning the Cousins Memorial Medal for the best instrumental performer of the year. He returned in 1999 for the three-year Bandmaster Course and graduated in August 2002, also completing a BMus (Hons).
He was appointed Bandmaster of the Highland Band of the Scottish Division in 2002, travelling throughout Europe and conducting at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
In 2006 he became Bandmaster of the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers in Chatham. His performances included the inaugural FA Cup Final at the new Wembley Stadium, as well as appearances in Berlin, Vienna, Gibraltar and Abu Dhabi.
Jonathan returned to the Royal Military School of Music in May 2008, initially as Training Design Warrant Officer and then as School Bandmaster from November. After three years developing student bandmasters and training young musicians, he was assigned to the Band of the Coldstream Guards as Bandmaster in 2011.
